What’s new in PC-DMIS 2021.2

PC-DMIS 2021.2

Continuing its drive to help customers improve speed and accuracy, PC-DMIS 2021.2 introduces several new features and enhancements focused on high-speed laser and non-contact sensor technology in addition to increased automation tools for path creation.

New: UniScan Command

The UniScan command allows manufacturers to simplify program creation by providing an automated path generation solution, which is particularly useful for gathering point clouds that cover multiple surfaces on large or complex parts. This command eliminates the need for considering which tip angles to use or having to manually scan paths, resulting in huge time savings. Surface types can be intelligently filtered, and control points allow faster speeds when traversing voids.

 

New AND Improved: Laser Auto features

Rounding out the enhancements to its laser capabilities, PC-DMIS 2021.2 adds new features to the Laser Auto suite of tools. The Laser Auto High Point feature allows users to measure the highest point utilising direct measurement for DCC in typical inline applications or extraction from external point clouds for DCC and Portable applications.

PC-DMIS 2021.2 speeds up mapping of laser probes mounted on continuous wrists, resulting in hours of time savings while maintaining accuracy. Combined with the new Laser Auto Wrist management capabilities, Laser

Auto Features can now be more easily and flexibly programmed, ensuring that the best probe orientations are utilised.

 

New: multiple sensor integrations

In addition to the new and improved functionality included in this release, PC-DMIS 2021.2 adds to its ever-growing list of compatible sensors by integrating the innovative AS1 3D laser scanner, and the ground-breaking HP-L-10.10 laser scanner. These integrations ensure that customers can remain confident in their ability to measure any part or geometry. These sensors offer users the flexibility, future capability and workflow efficiency to optimise part measurement.


PC-DMIS 2021.2 offers many other new features and improvements, including:

  • NEW: Constructed Feature Dialog with a host of new functionality – allows users to more easily extract features from a point cloud including surface points, planes, and circles, all in a newly refreshed user interface.
  • IMPROVED: Avoidance Move Before-After – sheet metal manufacturers can enjoy simplified programming for Contact Auto Features by specifying different values for before and after moves, reducing the need for additional moves between features.
  • IMPROVED: Geometric Tolerance command migration – improves the migration process for users moving to versions that use the geometric tolerance command, allowing them to take advantage of superior GD&T capabilities and standards-based error checking.
  • NEW: Probe Management in Inspect 5.1 – allows operators to easily see which probes and tips are needed for a routine and calibrate them, all from within Inspect.
  • NEW: Swift-Check in Inspect 5.1 – users can now utilise Hexagon’s Swift-Check CMM validation artefact directly from Inspect, giving operators confidence in the reliability of their measurements.

PC-DMIS is a highly flexible and widely adopted metrology software. It comes as standard on all Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division’s measurement devices. It is also available as a retrofit package for most other measurement equipment manufacturers’ machines, allowing users of non-Hexagon equipment to take advantage of PC-DMIS technology.

NEW: Constructed Feature Dialog with a host of new functionality

The newly designed Constructed Feature Dialog not only increases ease of use with an updated, consistent interface, it also adds new functionality that allows users to more easily extract features from a point cloud. These features include minimum and maximum extreme points, surface points, planes, and circles, and no longer requires having to load a laser probe.

 

IMPROVED: Avoidance Move Before-After

As the top-voted PC-DMIS Idea Center item for sheet metal, the Avoidance Move Before-After feature allows users to specify different values for before and after when programming Contact Auto Features. This simplifies programming Contact Auto Features and reduces the need for additional moves in between features.


IMPROVED: Geometric Tolerance command migration

Any users migrating existing programs will appreciate the improvements that PC-DMIS 2021.2 brings to this feature. Users who are moving to versions that use the geometric tolerance command can take advantage of the superior GD&T capabilities and standards-based error checking. The new migration tool captures all errors and lists them in the migration report. Users can now be confident that if no migration report is encountered, their routines require no editing or intervention.


NEW: Probe Management in Inspect 5.1

Allows operators to easily see which probes and tips are needed for a routine and calibrate them, all from within Inspect, allowing operators to prepare the CMM before measurements even begin. As with Swift-Check, probe calibrations can be enforced on regularly recurring intervals using Inspect’s new Scheduler, ensuring measurement integrity.


NEW: Swift-Check in Inspect 5.1

Operators can now take advantage of Hexagon’s new Swift-Check CMM validation artefact directly from Inspect, ensuring the reliability of their measurements. The new Scheduler in Inspect allows users to enforce Swift-Check routines at specified intervals, and Pass/Fail results are shown within Inspect. Historical Swift-Check performance data is able to be viewed in SFx | Asset Management on a per CMM basis.

 

PC-DMIS 2021.2 offers additional new features and improvements, including:

  • Blade Scan RT command
  • Probe management in Inspect 5.1

Operating system

PC-DMIS 2021.2 operates under 64-bit Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista. No other operating systems are supported.

  • For HP-L systems and systems that use RS-SQUARED sensors that run PC-DMIS in DCC mode, you need to use a 64-bit Windows 10 Pro Computer with up to 4 Cores.   • When you use third-party drivers, you should contact your local Manufacturing Intelligence representative to ensure operating system compatibility.
  • Running PC-DMIS inside a Virtual Machine (VM) is supported only if the VM supports OpenGL 3 or higher.
  • PC-DMIS Vision machines do not support 64-bit Windows 8. The Matrox Frame grabber PC-DMIS Vision hardware component does not support a 64-bit operating system.

Microsoft .NET Framework

If you do not have Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.1 for Windows, the PC-DMIS installer will install it for you.

RAM

4 GB of RAM or higher

  • The size of the CAD data file and the tessellation multiplier value used affect the amount of memory needed. These both affect the number of tessellated facets needed to display the model. The smaller the tessellation multiplier value used, the more memory needed for the facets. For large CAD models, this could cause an "Out of Memory" error. If this occurs, the current PC-DMIS session will be left in an unstable state and should be terminated.
  • The default tessellation multiplier value is 1.0. Setting a tessellation multiplier of 0.1 will result in a 10 to 20 percent increase in the memory required over the default value of 1.0. Decreasing the tessellation multiplier further to 0.01 will result in an additional 50 to 65 percent increase of memory required.

The graphics driver must support OpenGL 3.0 or higher. A warning message appears on PC-DMIS start-up if the driver does not support OpenGL 3.0 or if your graphics driver is more than three years old.

  • Three Ethernet ports. This may be required for specific installations in consideration of local needs, including but not limited to CMM systems where one port is required for controller communications and another for intranet/internet communications.

  • LAN port with Intel Chipset (for example, I219) (for HP-L systems)


Note:
A HASP key does not act as general-purpose data storage; therefore, you cannot use a HASP key to store (download) arbitrary data from a computer. Similarly, you cannot use a HASP key to put (upload) arbitrary data on a computer. Also, only Hexagon applications can read or write to a HASP key; other applications do not have this capability. As a result, you cannot use a HASP key to load and unload data to and from a computer.

Anti-virus software

Hexagon used the Sophos anti-virus tool to test PC-DMIS 2021.2. The user will need to confirm the performance of any other anti-virus tool. 
Solutions for CMMs using RS-232 communications

If you are installing PC-DMIS 2021.2 on a new or existing computer, but you have an older CMM model that uses RS-232 communications, then you will need to install one of these solutions on your computer:

  • An external RS-232 serial-to-USB adapter cable plus the serial-to-USB adapter cable driver
  • An internal serial adapter card with serial ports
