What is your name and position within Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence?
Amir Grinboim, Product Manager White Light & Automation
How did you get into this line of work?
Almost by accident… I had answered an ad in 2004 for a company named CogniTens for a position as an Application Engineer. Working in such a dynamic company in an exciting industry, made me learn more about the manufacturing processes, leading to my first relocation to Germany in 2006, to re-open the European office. I had spent 2 years in Germany, one with CogniTens, and one with Hexagon, returning to Israel in 2008 to take the position of Technical Sales Manager, specializing in automation. Under this position, I have assisted local Hexagon Commercial Operations Managers with automation projects, mainly in the US and China. In 2013, I had been presented with the opportunity to move to the U.S. as a Product Manager, and have been located in Wixom, MI ever since.
What does your day to day look like at Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence? Describe a day in the life.
A typical day starts early, with morning meetings with our product line and R&D facilities, located in Italy and Israel. The rest of my day, my focus is on internal discussions with sales, applications and customers.
I also spend time meeting with our customers at their facilities, reviewing their processes, and how we can help improve them.
What are your future goals?
My near future goal is to grow the 3D optical scanner business in North America. I also see myself growing in the organization.
What about the BLAZE 600M makes this machine different from other blue light machine systems?
The main difference between the new BLAZE 600M system and other blue light systems is the multiple image acquisition modes. The BLAZE 600M incorporates two mainstream technologies: stereovision using single random pattern projection, and structure light projection with Digital Light Processing (DLP) unit. The ability to have both technologies in the same sensor enables Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence to build hybrid modes that use the benefits of both methodologies. This enables fitting the acquisition mode and the data acquired to fit the customer’s process, and required outputs.
Does the BLAZE 600M require any special part preparation or lighting to provide accurate scanning data?
No, the BLAZE 600M can measure the part without any special surface treatment. Parts that traditionally needed powder treatment, such as shiny reflective parts or shiny black parts, can be scanned with the BLAZE 600M in an “as-is” condition.
What do you do for fun outside of working at Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence? Hobbies?
Spending time with my kids is pure fun. Other than that, I enjoy watching sports mainly basketball, soccer and football.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
When I was 18 years old, before joining the military, I received an offer to play basketball in one of the teams in Israel (semi-professional team).
