What do we think about when we read the word ‘career’?
Exploring this question can reveal how we feel about the trajectory of our career and how deeply it influences our sense of identity. ‘Career’ originates from the Middle French ‘carriere’, meaning ‘road’ or ‘racecourse’ and the Latin ‘carrus’, meaning ‘chariot’. The history of the word itself illuminates how we might conceptualise careers: a course we follow in our lives, which requires focus and looking ahead with a sense of progression.
How do we shape the course of our career and perhaps even accelerate on that course? A variety of ways to achieve these objectives will be offered on 12-15 June when HxGN LIVE, Hexagon’s premier annual event, returns to Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mix motivation with meaning and you make inspiration. It’s a simple recipe, but it doesn’t come ready-made. This is unfortunate because we all know both the power of inspiration to drive our careers and the disheartening feeling of inspiration drying up sometimes in our day-to-day work.
HxGN LIVE provides a powerful tonic through deep exploration of the bigger picture: why we do what we do, what we can do to grow, and what kind of world our careers are helping to shape. The keynotes are unmissable opportunities to shape your career by getting inspired and innovating your thinking.
The Big Leap – Tuesday 12 June
How does transformational change happen for an organisation, an industry, even the world? Do we make big leaps via small incremental steps or by really stretching ourselves? In HxGN LIVE’s opening keynote, President & CEO of Hexagon Ola Rollén examines how we can accelerate toward where we could be technologically and in our professional development.
Rethink Quality – Wednesday 13 June
How could a change in our perception of quality transform manufacturing productivity? In the keynote for the Manufacturing Intelligence Track, Norbert Hanke, President of Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, and Brian Shepherd, Senior Vice President for Software Solutions, explore how to streamline production and boost output by enabling smarter, more data-driven approaches to manufacturing with innovative technologies.
Our careers are not only shaped by professional development and reinvention, but also by the development of technologies that assist us in driving productivity and change in our organisation. At HxGN LIVE, attendees can visit The Zone, 120 000ft+ of the latest innovative technology that could be transforming their business in the future. Live demonstrations are combined with the chance to get hands-on with metrology hardware and software, statistical process control (SPC) software, and CAE and CAD/CAM solutions, while visitors to the Smart Factories island will be able to see the development of a product from concept to reality.
Countless successful people, from CEOs through world leaders to artists, attest to the fact that one of the most powerful ways they shape their career is to seize and fully exploit opportunity.
The American philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “the world is all gates, all opportunities, strings of tension waiting to be struck.” This ethos is at the core of HxGN LIVE. Whether you’re learning in an interactive workshop, being inspired by thought leadership, or sparking friendships and fruitful conversation at one of the evening events, each moment at HxGN LIVE is an opportunity to make meaningful change happen in your career.
