Technology Partners Hendrick Motorsports and Driver Jimmie Johnson win 7th Sprint Cup Series championship
Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence extends its congratulations to Hendrick Motorsports, driver Jimmie Johnson and Team #48 on their stunning victory this past weekend. On Sunday November 20th, 2016, Jimmie Johnson gained and held the lead during the final 3 laps of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season, the Ford Ecoboost 400 race. When he crossed the finish line at Homestead-Miami Speedway he earned his fifth win of the season, and his seventh Sprint Cup championship — equaling legendary driver Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt for the most championship wins in Sprint Cup history.
Johnson is the youngest NASCAR driver to win seven championships at the age of 41. As a winner of five straight spanning from 2006 to 2010, he is the only driver in NASCAR history to win more than three consecutive titles, with his sixth and seventh titles coming in 2013 and 2016 respectively. After a 2016 season that included Johnsons longest winless streak of his career, Hendrick Motorsports and Team #48 kicked in their “NEVER QUIT” attitude once the round of 16 in the Chase playoffs had waved its green flag.
