How did you get into this line of work?
I have been working in the Manufacturing and Quality Engineering business since I attended High School as a co-op student, and my entire family has been involved in the automotive industry for over 100 years, so it was natural for me. I started my consulting business when I was 23 years old, and the rest is history!
What does your day to day look like at Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence? Describe a day in the life.
My professional life could be summed up by this phrase: very fast paced! My day typically requires keeping up with customer demands, while simultaneously developing world-class solutions — and I am usually working in a “startup mode”, similar to how a new business would operate. In addition, I dedicate my time to watching and coaching my team to act in an entrepreneurial way; so far they have done a great job in transitioning into this mindset and approach, while working in a corporate environment.
What are your future goals?
My immediate goal is to grow the Integrated Solutions Business Unit by leveraging our best-in-class products and solutions. I am also focused on developing the best people and team possible, by sharing my knowledge and experience in the industry.
What makes Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence uniquely capable of launching a product like the 360° FMC?
The simple answer to this question is that we are in the unique position to offer the 360° FMC because we have a world class suite of core products, knowledge and know-how, and we can package them into a highly effective solution.
What problems does the 360° FMC solve?
The 360° FMC solution’s “sweet spot” is that it offers incredible flexibility and very quick time- to-market in a complex manufacturing environment. Since announcing the new automation division and engineering the product, what we’ve learned is that our customers have a strong need for the flexibility of a solution like the 360° FMC to help support their demanding manufacturing environment.
How does the 360° FMC fit with the strategic vision that Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence laid out in 2016?
The new automation solution provides an easy migration path to a customer interested in getting the benefits of Industry 4.0, but can’t commit to a full retooling of their manufacturing line to obtain a data-driven manufacturing environment. Also, the system fits very neatly into the sensing, thinking, acting work flow as part of constantly innovating your operation. In this way, the 360° FMC solution’s strategic value to Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence is that it helps to future-proof us and our customers against the relentless forces of competition and change.
What do you do for fun outside of working at Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence? Hobbies?
I very much enjoy spending time with my 3 children and wife. I am very active in sports both at a collegiate and youth level. I really enjoy football and baseball, and my oldest boy is a collegiate pitcher, my youngest son is already being recruited as a sophomore in high school. I love being outdoors, and enjoy hunting and fishing, too. I like giving back to my community, and I do this by spending time with underprivileged local youths that have no father in their lives.
