Computational Applied Mechanics Developer

Hexagon's Manufacturing Intelligence division is seeking a Computational Applied Mechanics Developer.  The ideal candidate will be in Irvine, CA, Detroit, MI, Cincinnati, OH, Pittsburgh, PA, or Rhode Island.

Description:  

Engineering design and software development that includes linear and nonlinear structural, dynamical, thermal, and acoustic application of FEM analysis. Develop Multiphysics solutions leveraging company’s broad solvers portfolio. Future opportunities to work on multiple solvers a possibility. Must be willing to interact with clients to add new features, correct known code errors, develop project unit tests, and produce designs using modern agile methodology.

Responsibilities:   
  • Perform design, implementation, system integration, documentation, and unit/system testing of Nastran’s FEM code
  • Support legacy element and analysis code in Nastran
  • Project and technical management
  • Author project and user documentation
  • Correct defects in Nastran
  • Ensure all deliverables meet established Product Quality Metrics and Guidelines
  • Assist QA and Project Testing teams with benchmarking and certification to ensure a successful and timely product release
  • Provide second-line support to MSC application/support engineers
  • May be asked to assist technical marketing and business development teams

Qualifications:   
  • Advanced Graduate degree in Applied Mechanics, Structural/Civil Engineering or Physics
  • ­Minimum 3 years’ related industry experience in architecting and developing large scale FEM software
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in software development projects functional and technical design specification.
  • Minimum 3 years’ programing experience in Fortran/C/C++//Python
  • Experience referred in:
    • Mathematical derivations of finite element formulations
    • Strong knowledge of numerical methods for finite element solvers
    • Strong knowledge in Finite Element Analysis, Formulations and Computational Structural Dynamics
    • Demonstrated experience in developing capabilities from mathematical derivation to implementation.
    • Team leadership in architecting FEM/CAE programs
    • Strong experience in re-architecting legacy software systems for cloud scalability and deployment
    • General knowledge of Nastran Direct Matrix Abstraction Program (DMAP) Language useful.
  • Software System Design
    • Demonstrated FEM/CAE software systems architecture expertise
    • Re-architecture of legacy software systems
    • Fortran/C/C++/Python/MATLAB programming experience
    • Must be willing to program in any of the above languages or all.
    • Must be willing to dig in and improve and fix errors in legacy code.
  • Requires minimal instructions on daily work and general instructions on newly introduced assignments.
  • General oral and written communication skills in English, required
