Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, a global provider of manufacturing technology and services, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC) to collaborate on projects enhancing skills and capabilities for the use and development of advanced manufacturing technology.
Industry 4.0 is characterised by increasingly connected and automated manufacturing processes, driven by cyber-physical systems, and, as part of the partnership, the Malaysian education centre will allocate facilities and technologies allowing Hexagon to form a closed feedback loop, showcasing the Factory of the Future (FOF) concept and the capabilities of its smart manufacturing technologies.
Hexagon will provide PSDC with TIGO SF
coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), Q-DAS statistical process control (SPC) software
, and regular training to develop student and staff knowledge and capabilities in advanced 3D measurement and quality data management. The collaboration also aims to strengthen industry links and foster engagement with the general public through seminars and educational outreach events.
The MoU was signed in a ceremony at PSDC’s Industry 4.0 Week 2017. The event, sponsored by Koridor Utara, SME Corp Malaysia, and Microsoft, brought together technology providers and users to network and collaborate on key Industry 4.0 issues, such as strategies for improving business efficiency and migrating to advanced technology with minimal investment. The MoU was signed by Mr. En Muhamed Ali Hajah Mydin, CEO of PSDC, and Mr. Kim Huat Leong, General Manager of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia at Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence Asia Pacific.
According to En Muhamed Ali Hajah Mydin, besides developing talent for the industry, the PSDC is also helping to support companies, especially SMEs, embark into Industry 4.0. "Our collaboration with Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence is very timely indeed. With the set-up of a 'Factory of the Future' system at the PSDC’s premises, companies can see the solutions and proof-of-concept demonstrating how they can migrate to Industry 4.0 technology with minimal investments," he said.
“PSDC plays an integral role in facilitating industry growth and development in Malaysia,” said Mr Kim Huat Leong. “This partnership and formation of a closed feedback loop marks an unprecedented step toward Industry 4.0 in APAC, enhancing industry-readiness for more connected, smarter manufacturing processes. We are proud to collaborate with PSDC and excited to help develop the knowledge and technology that will enable professionals to capitalise on the opportunities of this new industrial era.”
