Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence customer GE Aviation has been named as an honouree in the Hexagon Shaping Smart Change Recognition Programme, which recognises customer excellence in visionary practices, global leadership, partnership and innovation. This year’s honourees were announced during the Innovation 360 event at HxGN LIVE 2016 in Anaheim, with more than 3,000 people in attendance.
The Shaping Smart Change Recognition Programme selects honourees that are considered to have achieved distinction in their fields and exemplify excellence, pushing the boundaries of innovation. GE Aviation, a leading global manufacturer and service provider for jet engines, was recognised for its influence in the development of a highly-efficient non-contact measurement solution for inspecting the blisk flowpath of aeroengines.
“The Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence and GE teams have worked hard in the last year to jointly cut blisk inspection time in half,” said Eric Hogarth, Manager, Inspection at GE Aviation. “I gave Hexagon a challenge to apply the HP-O optical sensor technology to blisk measurement in a timely manner and they responded. We have provided Hexagon with specific direction, risk analysis and comprehensive tasks to deliver a complete measurement solution, and given candid feedback.”
The system developed as a result of this request resulted in a significant cycle time reduction of compressor blade aerofoil inspection processes.
“GE Aviation is a very demanding customer and with this project they really pushed us to use our technology and expertise to develop a groundbreaking system,” said Angus Taylor, President of Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence North America. “We are inspired by their vision and we are very pleased to name them our Shaping Smart Change honouree for 2016.”
