Hexagon Metrology hosts technical seminar for manufacturers
Industry leaders introduced to new multisensor technology applications during free workshop18 March 2015
Manufacturing professionals and industry leaders from across Asia came together at the Penang Skill Development Centre in Malaysia on 17th and 18th March 2015 to learn more about multisensor inspection techniques for precision manufacturers. Such methods are helping businesses transition from measuring only what could be seen with the human eye to measuring even the tiniest components that cannot.
Companies ranging from semiconductor and electronics manufacturers to machinery and precision equipment producers were in attendance as metrology experts explained the benefits and application potential of multisensor coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) for their specific industries. Demonstrations took place using the Hexagon Metrology Optiv Performance 443 with a chromatic white light sensor, Optiv Classic 321GL with touch probe and Optiv Lite 322 to show the versatility of method and flexibility of programming offered by CMMs which carry multiple sensor types, including contact and non-contact options. These machines give users the choice of scanning measurement solutions as well as conventional point-to-point inspections, enabling them to make difficult measurements like surface roughness which are beyond the capability of standard CMMs.
The non-contact measurement techniques on offer, including the 2D vision sensor and the 3D chromatic white light option, were of particular interest to the electronics and semiconductor manufacturers in attendance because of their requirements to measure extremely small and fragile parts or objects such as multilayer transparent and highly-reflective materials which cannot be measured with any other equipment.
“It was fantastic to welcome so many manufacturing professionals to the seminar,” said Leong Kim Huat, Hexagon Metrology’s general manager for Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia. “These events give us real insight into the challenges our customers face in their industries, and we were delighted to help solve some of these issues by demonstrating our multisensor technology on parts which our attendees had been unable to measure using their existing systems. Our chromatic white light sensor and other multisensor technology make almost all kinds of measurement possible, ranging from front end to back end process.”
The event was organised by Hexagon Metrology Malaysia in cooperation with Hexagon Metrology authorised dealer, Cotel Precision Industries.
