Hexagon Metrology and GALIKA support digital production forum

Technical presentation at Metalloobrabotka 2015 generates interest from public and private sectors

18 June 2015

Hexagon Metrology and Russian master distributor GALIKA were participants in the inaugural International Forum on Digital Production of Machines, which took place at Metalloobrabotka 2015 in Moscow on 28 May.

Organised by the STANKIN Moscow State Technical University and ZAO Expocentre in cooperation with GALIKA, the forum’s goals are to expand and strengthen international research and development cooperation to create new digital technologies for machinery manufacturing and spotlight innovation projects for efficient digital machinery production. As well as the development side attendees discussed means of taking such products to market, alongside other key industry trends like automation, additive technologies and product lifecycle management. Following this successful first edition, the event will be repeated on a regular basis.

“The subject of the forum is the key for development of the main industries in the Russian market. Creation of modern breakthrough solutions for the machine-building and defence industries is not possible without the emergence of new production technologies, the basic element of which is digital technology,” said Vladimir V. Gutenev., Vice-President of the Russian Machine Building Union.

As part of the discussion GALIKA arranged for Daniele Gastaldo, Hexagon Metrology’s Key Account Manager for Russia, to present on the topic of measurement and inspection within the product lifecycle, showcasing the benefits of specialist shop-floor measuring equipment.

Gastaldo highlighted the importance of metrology for quality control and process productivity, focusing on two real-world examples using the Hexagon Metrology TIGO SF shop-floor coordinate measuring machine (CMM) with PC-DMIS software. The first looked at the performance of the CMM in a metalworking plant with extremely variable operating conditions, while the second involved large batch productions in a high-temperature environment. Impressively, the TIGO was capable of completing the necessary dimensional inspections without halting the process, supporting the innovative manufacturing aims of the forum.

“We believe that integrating metrology equipment into the production process is a key trend for manufacturers, and it was a pleasure to bring these ideas to a like-minded audience at this event,” added Gastaldo.
